MARC'S ROCK SHRINE: WORK TO DO IN 2011

  TREE MANAGEMENT

1) Tree Management
If you look at the images below you can see how much the Tree has grown since the council cut it well back in 1992 (seven years before TAG took over responsibility). You can also see how the weight of this entire extra tree' has warped (or bent) the calliper we fitted in early 2000. We will be working closely with a qualified tree surgeon and will take appropriate action on the 26th March 2011.

  FURTHER WORK TO BE DONE

PLEASE NOTE: THE DETAILS BELOW ARE PROVISIONAL.
THEY DEPEND ON MANY FACTORS INCLUDING OUR TIME AVAILABLE TO DO THE WORK-FOR-FREE AND TAG FUNDS BEING AVAILABLE. IF WE HAVE TO WASTE MONEY UNDOING DAMAGE/VANDALISM/GRAFFITI AS WE HAVE HAD TO IN THE PAST, THIS MAY MEAN THIS WORK CANNOT GO AHEAD.

REPLACE THE UPRIGHT TREE TRUNK & LOG ROLL IN FRONT OF IT

2) Replace/repair some of the Log Roll which was fitted in 2000. Sadly it would appear that a car or similar has driven or reversed into this and damaged it. This is in the same area as the Ivy/Honeysuckle Covered upright tree trunk (Below).

3) The Ivy/Honeysuckle Covered dead tree trunk. We fitted this as a nice 'feature' in 2000. Sadly, although this has been standing for over ten years the visit in January 2010 by Fee, showed that it has been partially knocked over. It had to be removed when we visited in February 2010. This was very sad as amongst the Ivy was Honeysuckle we planted ten years ago. We will be fitting a new 'Upright' (type not yet decided) which we can train new climbing plants up.

4) Replacing the front of the first step. On our visit of 5th August, 2010 we noticed that this could do with replacing so this will be one as soon as it can be fitted in

   REPLANTING

5) Replanting We are investigating what it will be possible to grow at the site given that most plants have little chance of establishing on this difficult soil where water drains away quickly. We will of course be training the Ivy there to grow where it is needed, to replace the ivy ripped out in February 2010 as detailed below.

PHEW! I think you can see that even though TAG don't (usually) blow our own trumpet we do actually do a heck of a lot of often unseen work including planning, investigation of what is needed followed by purchase of items before they can even be transported to the site to be used. If all the work we would like to do is to be done then we do need your support. Visit our FUND RAISING SHOP for a range of Bolan-Tastic Goodies ... and that is without mentioning the Bracket Fungi, which means there are fungal mycelia within the felled rear trunk of the tree. All this needs careful but decisive action to ensure that the tree continues to live and does not become a hazard to anyone.

WHY DO WE NEED TO DO ALL THIS?
TO STOP THE BOLAN TREE DOING THIS ....

REMEMBER THERE IS A BUSY ROAD USED BY CARS, CYCLISTS AND PEDESTRIANS.
NOTICE THE WORDING.
TAG HAS A LEGAL RESPONSIBILITY TO THE PUBLIC.
TAG DOES NOT HAVE A LEGAL RESPONSIBILITY TO KEEP A DISEASED TREE
(AS THE BOLAN TREE IS) STANDING IF THERE IS ANY RISK IT MAY INJURE PEOPLE.

This will be updated from time to time as work is done.
