* Trivia The film uses "Non-Educated Delinquents" as a "backronym" for "neds". Although many people have supposed it to come from this (including famously Rosie Kane MSP), it almost certainly doesn't come from here, it's folk etymology. "Non-educated" is bad English (it should be "uneducated"), and "ned" is just as likely to have its origins in a shortened form of "Neanderthal", "Ned" (a pet form of Edward) or even a variant of "Teddy Boy", a working class British youth movement of the 1950s.
