OFFICIAL ROSE CATALOGUE DESCRIPTION:
"A flamboyant and striking Floribunda befitting of the late Marc Bolan. A versatile rose that can be used as either a tall Floribunda, or a small Climber. The blooms are an unusual combination of purple with a yellow eye and lavender reverse and form an attractive ruffled shape reminiscent of a feather boa. Named by the T-Rex Action Group, legal guardians of Marc Bolan's Rock Shine. £2.00 from the sale of each rose will be divided equally between TAG and the Marc Bolan School of Music and Film in Sierra Leone which helps local children, orphans and those rescued from the blood diamond mines. We are delighted to say that due to a wonderful donation we have now raised the money needed for the rose. Now all we have to do is to wait for Mother Nature to Grow the Roses. We do still have some Wall Plaques in stock which we had already bought from the artist who created for them.

We will be offering these to people who do not already have wall plaques as a Special Offer Package along with a Rose Bush when they become available. What a brilliant way to start 2013! We are of course also delighted that once the roses go on sale the charity part of each sale will be split equally between TAG and The Marc Bolan School of Music and Film.

UPDATE : 9th NOVEMBER 2012

One of our members told us that Freddie Mercury had his own rose and so we set up the project to raise funds for a MARC BOLAN rose. Originally, we predicted that the cost would be £2,000 (see older updates below). This was based on the cost of the Freddie Mercury Rose Therefore we assumed Marc's Rose would cost the same. What we didn't realise is that Freddie's Rose cost £2,000 in 1993!! As you can imagine, inflation means that NINETEEN YEARS LATER the BEST QUALITY UNIQUE ROSE can no longer be grown for £2,000!

The actual cost is £2,500. Unfortunately this is without the dreaded VAT, so that with VAT the total is £3,000. But don't worry, even though we do need to sell the remainder of the wall plaques, TAG has been able to empty the TAG 'piggy bank' of money put aside for work during the Winter of 2012/2013 to ensure the rose is secure and registration could begin.

As you can see we chose a rose in Flamboyant Cerise/Purplewith a Yellow Eye when Fully Open. We decided to select a rose which was as easy to care for as possible and is also as versatile as possible.We can honestly say that the MARC BOLAN rose fits all these criteria. It is a Free-Flowering Multi-Flora rose, which can be pruned to keep it as a rose bush, or can be used as a climber up a wall or trellis.

The colour not only reflects one of most popular colours for Marc's feather boas, including the one he gifted to Cilla Black when he appeared on her show in January 1973, but was also influenced by one of his most memorable items of clothing from the Marc Shows filmed in the second half of 1977 - The Cerise Pink Shirt with the letters M A R C in contrasting Appliqué.

APPROVAL FROM MARC'S BROTHER HARRY & HIS SON ROLAN BOLAN

We are delighted to receive a lovely letter on sunny yellow writing paper from Harry and Sandy Feld saying what a good idea it was. Harry also let us know that he had spoken to Rolan who was in agreement too and Rolan has now also been in touch! Since then we have been able to visit Harry and Sandy Feld at their home to discuss the project and to present them with their plaque (see left) .

PREFERENTIAL CHANCE TO BUY THE VERY FIRST BOLAN ROSE BUSHES

Those who buy a Wall Plaque will be the first to be offered the opportunity to buy one of the Official Marc Bolan Rose bushes in 2013.

We expect a sell-out in 2013 to those who buy plaques as they will be able to buy more than one Rose Bush if they wish, so buy your plaque to ensure you can have your MARC BOLAN rose bush in 2013.

FUND RAISING WALL PLAQUES

Limited to just 100 Worldwide all individually numbered. All those who buy a plaque will be able to buy rose bushes as soon as they are available and it is expected that the 2013 release of these rose bushes will sell-out to those who buy plaques. They will then be on general sale as of 2014.

There are four options: Silver, Gold Terracotta (indoor) & Terracotta (outdoor). The four finishes include an Outdoor Terracotta finish. The other three options are all designed for interior display and are backed with felt. The Outdoor Terracotta option does not have the felt backing. All the plaques have in embedded brass hanging loop on the reverse, allowing them to be hang on any wall with a picture hook or pin.
